Concussions at Zen Den:
Concussions result from a low to high velocity impact to the head or shaking of the head with moderate to extreme force. Concussion symptoms can start out extreme or start out small. “I have never seen a concussion or traumatic brain injury (TBI) manifest in the exact same way. And unfortunately, I have seen thousands of athletes and clients with concussion or TBI. Many seemingly benign symptoms can turn into years of pain. Conversely many “bad” blows to the head have been less intrusive to the client.”
The brain is our most powerful tool but the least understood. With the brain stem so close to the base of the spine, even a whiplash can result in severe symptoms.
Here is what I know for sure:
There should be no bouncing, running or risk of falling or being hit within the first 7-10 days.
A client can be seen within hours of the incident. The sooner the better.
Baseline computer testing for concussion is a start but it is not good enough because kids have learned to “dumb down” during the baseline. Sideline testing should be done within 24-48 hours of the incident to compare with the baseline.
If you do your baseline at Zen Den, we will do a functional neurology screen specific to concussion. You cannot dumb this down or fake your results because we are testing reflexes. You can’t fake reflexes.
Your sideline test after the concussion can be done daily at Zen Den.
At Zen Den functional neurology screens include testing for eye dilation, balance, neck pain, spinal reflexes, spinal stability, visual reflexes, vestibular reflexes and the best part….we can reactivate the reflexes that have gone awry. We are so confident that this intervention is effective because we are clinicians that have seen thousands of clients. The results are beyond impressive. We will literally re-boot or reactivate sensory reflexes on the spot.
